Hello friend!

IT IS A DIFFICULT WINTER and this is me trying to do my share. I named it our self-care series because we truly are in this together. There is no Plan B. We’re getting vaccinated together, we’re mostly following the safety rules together, and we will stay sane together.

For background, I’m not a mental health professional or life coach. I’ve lived a bit, though. I won’t bore you with war stories because they are never as interesting as the teller thinks, but know that wherever you are right now, chances are I’ve been there too.

You will find that I am big on simple, practical workarounds (and music, as you’ll see). If I use any psychobabble, call me on it.

So….. a year of semi-isolation and we’re still here huh? We can do this! Ready?

As always, let’s be respectful and safe.

The series so far:

1. Self checks: How am I doing today?
With no end in sight and rules changing (and being broken) every other day, we’re living in limbo. How do you know when you’re reaching your limit? Read me

2. Blurt It Out:
It is tempting to try to downplay feelings this winter, but if you’re struggling, you’re struggling. Say something. Read me

3. Be purposeful:
Chatting with myself over my morning coffee about what to do today keeps me from drifting. What will make today a success for me?  Read me

4. No Zero Days:
Promise yourself that you will do one thing for you today, no matter how trivial. The first time I tried it I cooked an egg. Read me

5. Reframing: Time to unexpect the expected
After a year of expecting bad news 24/7, I need a break. I will learn to accept disruption as a ‘new normal’. I need to get on with things. Read me

6. Decluttering: I didn’t know it’s weight until I gave it away
There’s nothing wrong with keepsakes, nothing at all. Alas, as I look around my writing room I see things I am not 100% honest with myself about. Read me

7. What is help?:
Tell your partner you’re feeling a bit vulnerable and maybe overwhelmed and next thing you know you’re being grilled by Dr. Phil. That’s not helping.  Read me

8. Dance while no one’s watching
If there ever was a time to “dance like no one’s watching”, this is it. People are too busy taking care of themselves to watch you, and anyway you can get away with anything if you call it self-care. Read me
